Backup today to protect tomorrow.

What would you do if you lost what matters most? This is the question we ask today to all digital users. If you backup your information regularly you won’t have to discover the answer.

During the World Backup Day, we remind our Primers of the importance to preserve their digital documents.

Every day we face different threats that jeopardize our digitally stored information.

The World Backup Day was created in 2011 by the American student Ismail Jadun, while he was thinking of ways to exponentiate his company “614a”. Jadun realized the growing necessity for backups while he was chatting with friends on Reddit, which made him select the day before April Fool’s as the day that he would spread the word about data protection.

Backup: avoid the nightmare

A backup is information that exists in two places at once. It’s a separate copy of all the files that a user considers important for himself – for example: photos, videos, documents and emails. Instead of doing this copy on a computer or mobile phone, you do it on a safe place such as an external drive or even a “cloud”- virtual space to register data.

Losing access to all your documents and essential information is more common than you may think. Each minute over 113 mobile phones are lost or stolen. But if you keep all your essential info in your computer don’t be fooled: 30% of all computers are already infected with malware.

If you think you’re safe from cyber attacks or natural disasters, think again. 83% of the population owns a computer, 89% owns a mobile phone and only 1 in 4 people do regular backups of their data

Backup: online or offline?

There are several reasons to do a backup and their all equally “bad”, so we don’t need to name them all. However, the different reasons are what lead us to choose the way we backup our details.

Sometimes a disaster needs to occur for us to realize that anyone is subject to loosing their information suddenly. A stolen phone, being a victim of hacking, a natural disaster where your equipment gets destroyed or deleting something on accident and not being able to recover it.

There are several ways to backup or store your information in a safe way that don’t include a device that can be hacked.

Several tech sources suggest that an online backup is safer than a backup that’s done in an external device or offline. Why? You can access the information from anywhere in the world, there’s no risk of being a theft victim or the possibility of loosing your details. These remain safe against any type of catastrophe that may destroy an external source of storage.

Backup: the importance

Backing up your most important details regularly is essential. To raise awareness about this, the website worldbackupday.com created a pledge to help people remember the importance of keeping their data safe: “I solemnly swear to back up my important documents and precious memories on March 31st.”

The pandemic had a strong impact on the raise of different types of cybercrime. With the increasing remote work opportunities, we lose the security of being connected to a company network and forget about automatic backups that these “make” us do.

Backup: the Prime proposal

AT PrimeIT we want our colleagues to always stay safe and never have to feel like their information is not protected. We know our data’s worth and how important it is to keep them secure.

So, we make sure that not backing up on the 31st of march doesn’t become a reality on April 1st. We take World Backup Day’s pledge and say “yes” to backing up our data, not only today but every time we get the chance.

It’s never too soon to backup your most special documents. Will you join us?
