“Boredom” is not a word that defines him. In this interview you’ll get a chance to learn about our Senior Java Developer, Kamil Sikora.

With a special passion for radical sports, he faces challenges the same way he ski tours: with confidence.

You hold a strong background in Software Engineering. What advice do you have for those who are starting a career today?

Software development is an occupation that requires mastery in many topics. However, in the beginning I would recommend focusing on proficiency in your chosen language and one of the popular frameworks. The ability to write good unit tests is important too. These are the skills that pay off later in your career. It’s also good to build a general, basic knowledge of current trends and libraries.

Tell us what led you to Prime Engineering Poland.

I was looking for new challenges and an interesting project. Additionally, I liked the clear and transparent recruitment process in Prime.

What are you working on right now? What kind of a project?

Currently I’m developing a payment system for a client from the banking domain. The project is very promising development-wise, and you definitely can’t complain about boredom.

Technology is challenging and keeps advancing every day. How do you keep your skills sharp and up to date?

We try to use the latest libraries and software engineering concepts in our daily work. This allows you to learn by practice. At the same time, when you find some free time after work, you can write a small application in the technology/library you want to learn more about.

We heard that you got hooked on ski touring. When and why did you start practicing this sport?

The first time I went ski touring was 3 years ago. Since then, I can’t imagine any other way of winter hiking in the mountains. Ski touring skis allow you to move fast and get downhill from places that an ordinary skier would never go to.

Ski touring is a challenging sport in which you’re skiing in unmarked or unpatrolled areas. Most of the time, success depends on you and you alone. However, as a software developer, teamwork is important for the success of all projects.

I often go alone on easy routes. For more demanding skydiving trips, competent and well-prepared companions are essential. Together we can assess the challenges and dangers in the mountains. This is a good analogy for software development. While working closely with experienced people, it is easier to spot bugs in the software being built and to deliver reliable solutions.
